Overview

Whether in the UK or China, the name of Wellington has been able to attract the very best international teachers, in addition to the most inspirational and qualified coaches and practitioners in any particular field, including the obvious ones of sports, music, art, drama and dancing, as well as many others too. Our ability to get top staff is only too apparent in Shanghai, which has already enabled us to plan a series of elite and ‘for-all’ programmes in many specialist areas. A peculiarly British feature of education is that many leading schools, including Wellington College, have been established as charitable institutions, where all surplus funds generated through the school are re-invested back into the educational programmes. In short, the school is not-for-profit. All the Wellington schools follow this financial model. We have set the educational bar very high for all the Wellington schools, including our newest school in Shanghai. We are confident that, as in the UK and Tianjin, we will fulfill such expectations. Indeed we want all of Shanghai to share our expectations. For we, as Wellingtonians, thrive on such challenges, never forgetting the College motto of Virtutis Fortuna Comes, or ‘fortune favours the brave”.

About Us

OUR AMBITION In building upon the successful heritage of our partner schools in the UK and China, we seek to establish Wellington College in Shanghai as the leading and most inspirational coeducational boarding and day school in China. We will be a ‘world class’ school, comparing favourably with the very best establishments anywhere, with a reputation centred on a breadth of excellence. Strong and effective leadership and a commitment to continual self-improvement in all areas of school life are deemed vital in achieving this aim. OUR ACADEMIC ETHOS Wellington College welcomes families from all nationalities, offering them a curriculum rooted in the very best of British education, all within the context of an international educational community. Our vision is of a vibrant, fully co-educational boarding and day school which will realise the maximum academic potential of every student from age three to eighteen years. In achieving this vision, the College will embrace the best teaching and learning practices and practitioners, drawn from all over the native English-speaking world. MISSION STATEMENT Our vision and values are based on the fundamental belief that all students can achieve, succeed and thrive – and it is the mission of everybody at the College to ensure we provide every opportunity for this to happen for every student. We seek to be an invigorating and challenging, not forgetting enjoyable school, which opens the minds and hearts of our students, teachers, parents and all other members of our community. We wish to provide a transformative experience, equipping students with the personal resilience, adaptability, tolerance and positivity to face the demands of a rapidly changing world, while ensuring that each grows to understand that serving and caring for others brings the highest rewards in life and the greatest likelihood of long-term happiness and fulfilment. While a student’s academic performance is always central, we believe that true education, and the foundations for success at adulthood come equally from participation in the many and varied areas of school life, and that all students can succeed and thrive in each of their Eight Aptitudes.
